Universidade Positivo offers two graduate programs in Dentistry:
The Master’s Program in Clinical Dentistry, offered at professional track, began its activities in 2008. In the quadriennium 2017-2020 the Program received a score of 4 in the Capes evaluation.
The PhD Program in Dentistry, offered at academic track, was approved by Capes in 2013 and demonstrates the scientific maturity of the professors involved in the Graduate Program in Dentistry at Universidade Positivo. In quadriennium 2017-2020 the Program received a score of 4 in the Capes evaluation.
On July 24, 2023, the Technical-Scientific Council for Higher Education (CTC-ES) of the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES), through Decision Order n.º 12/2023/CTC-ES and Official Letter n.º 190/2023-DAV/CAPES, approved UP’s request to change the modality of the Graduate Program in Clinical Dentistry (code 40022013003P2) from professional to academic, at the master’s level. This decision was deliberated at the 220th Meeting of the CTC-ES, held between May 22 and 26, 2023, and formalized by CAPES Ordinance n.º 42, of January 29, 2024. Subsequently, on August 30, 2024, MEC Ordinance n.º 883 published the merger of the following stricto sensu Graduate Programs (PPGs) at UP:
*Dentistry (academic, doctorate, code 40022013007P8);
*Clinical Dentistry (professional, master’s, code 40022013003P2).
As a result of this merger, a new PPGO was created, with an academic modality, encompassing both master’s and doctorate levels, maintaining the code 40022013007P8 (starting in 2025).
Thus, UP transitioned the Clinical Dentistry program from a professional to an academic modality, and subsequently merged it with the Dentistry program, resulting in a single, now academic, master’s and doctorate program in Dentistry.
These actions allow the new PPGO, in its academic modality, to be better integrated in all relevant aspects, especially faculty, teaching activities, research projects, and scientific output. The proposal for modality change and merger represents a rationalization of resources, management, and student training, enhancing the program’s consolidation and making it more robust and sustainable.
The entire process was carefully planned and initiated in 2021. Since then, all actions, planning, intellectual productions, and academic activities developed throughout the 2021-2024 quadrennium were conceived with the objective of consolidating the merger of the programs for 2025.
